Clay Pots

In science Class 1 identified objects made of clay in and around the school and at home.  To get a first-hand experience of how the properties of clay change and how clay is manipulated to make different objects the children made their own clay pots.  They changed their piece of clay in to a pot by squashing and turning the wet soft clay.  As the pots began to dry out the children observed how the clay was changing colour.  When they painted their pots, they noticed that the clay was no longer a pliable material, it was now hard and the shape could not be changed.  Children commented that the pot would break if they dropped it.
