Careers' Day

Just before we broke up for Christmas we had a curriculum enrichment day based on careers. Several different jobs were represented including; politics, scientific research, animal welfare, the church, fitness instructing, milling and the work of an estate agent.
We were fortunate to have our local MP, Elizabeth Truss, spare us the time to come and talk to the children in KS2 about her work as a junior education minister. Mr Armitage of MA estate agents talked about the processes of selling homes and a representative from the job centre put some of the children though a mock job interview.
Our chair of Governors Nix Marston talked about her work in medical research and Jo Hurst, who runs the cross country club with Miss Pennock, came to talk about her work as a fitness instructor. Jo also ran a zumba session for all classes, the children really enjoyed these.
KS1 had Mrs Able from Denver Mill talk to them about all aspects of running the shop and mill. She bought in many objects for the children to look at and dress up in and some wonderful flap jacks for them to taste.
They also had a visit from Rev. Judith Grundy and representatives from the London Road Vets who talked about animal welfare and bought in a little furry friend.
Overall it was a wonderful informative day enjoyed by all the children.
